'While I've written about some of my 'favourite hostels' worldwide, today, I want to focus on some of my all-time favourites. Some of the best places I've been while travelling has been in hostels.
'
'
'
'My favourite things about these hostels can be found here: nice staff, welcoming environment, reasonable costs for comfortable beds and clean amenities with a particular je ne sais quoi that makes a place unforgettable.
''
'
'Since I've been 'travelling' for ten years, I've probably been in more than 1,000 hostels. Some of them were so awful that I've completely forgotten about them. But I have a few favourites, places I'll never forget and will go out of my way to see, among the many I've visited.
''
'
'1. Los Patios (Medellin, Colombia)
''
'
'Colombia's natural surroundings are depicted on the floors of this beautiful hostel in themed rooms. Additionally, there is an organic garden (whose herbs may be used), a Spanish school, and community kitchens in the large two-building complex. In the entire city, it was the best hostel I had ever been in.
''
'
'The private rooms are just as pleasant as hotels, and each dorm bed has its privacy curtain. My favourite things about this hotel were the 'restrooms' and the mattresses; I had some of my nicest dreams while staying here. On top of that, there are free activities like salsa workshops and street art excursions, not to mention the complimentary teas and coffees. Guests will enjoy the warm hospitality of the hotel's personnel. Overall, this hostel seems to understand it.

'
'2. Franceso's (Ios, Greece)
''
'
''
''
'
'Ios' most popular lodging option is Francesco's (the other being Far Out Beach Resort). Francesco's is closer to town (no late-night walks home), and the staff gathers everyone together at night to get to know each other better. Far Out is a far more solitary environment. People come and go all the time in our city.
''
'
'Additionally, there's a swimming pool on-site for guests' enjoyment. Francesco's is next door to the best milkshake shop in the world. In addition to its great location near everything, this hostel is a great place to meet new people and have a great time.
''
'
'3. Kabul (Barcelona, Spain)
''
'
'If you're searching for an all-out party, Kabul is the place to be, but only if you're willing to do the work. In Kabul, you don't come to sleep. In the summer, it's booked out months in advance because of the place's reputation as a party hot spot. People mingle with one other in the dorms and hallways, playing games like cards, drinking and listening to music, or going downstairs to the huge common area for cheap beer and pool. Each night, Kabul provides a little complimentary supper. Stay here if you're young and drink like to drink, or if you're just young at heart.

'
'4. Nomads (Queenstown, New Zealand)
''
'
''
''
'
'At the time of my 2009 visit, this hostel had just opened its doors to guests of Nomads. With a bunch of folks already staying there, this location blew my mind. Most rooms have balconies, and the hostel has a large kitchen (restaurant-sized), excellent bathrooms and toilets (with great water pressure), and a spacious common area. The manager told me that the pillows are replaced every few months to maintain their fluffiness. How about this for customer service?
''
'
'Furthermore, unlike other hostels in New Zealand, this one does not have a bar, which means you may drink at the hostel without leaving the premises. Many individuals stayed out late instead of going to bars because of this.
''
'
'5. The Flying Pig (Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
''
'
'My favourite aspect about this location is the people. It's a bit pricey, but the vibe here is fantastic. Even though this hostel is popular with tourists who want to relax and use pot, the bar area gets quite crowded at night.
''
'
'This place isn't just a smoking den. This establishment's unique selling point is its personnel, who are a mix of locals and visitors. With guests, they're knowledgeable about the city and will assist you if you need it. They share your enthusiasm for having a good time.
''
'
'Regarding Flying Pig locations, I like the uptown version since it's smaller and more convenient to meet new people. The city of Amsterdam is the only place I'll ever remain.
''
'
'6. Base St. Kilda (Melbourne, Australia)
''
'
'I've previously likened Base to a McDonald's-style hostel. You eat a lot, yet you don't feel completely satiated when you go home. With their Melbourne hostel, McDonald's (Base) outperformed the competition. It's the best hostel I've stayed at in Australia. Every night is a party in the bar, and BBQs and other activities are going on throughout the week.
''
'
'The rooms and bathrooms are also spotless and properly cared about. This is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike because of the ambience and location. Within minutes of arriving at the dorm, I found a group of people to hang around with.
